THIS MONTH’S NEWS
- Our first Yard Sale of the year was a great day for all. First, our membership was very generous and we thank each of you who donated items for our sale. We can’t do this without you! Saturday morning arrived with perfect weather. All hands were on deck early Saturday morning bringing all the furniture outside so it would be visible to the many patrons of the Farmers Market next door. Sales started early and remained brisk until 1 pm when the happy but rather tired helpers closed up shop for the day. We want to especially thank Liz Max and her hardworking team of volunteers – Jon Stanat, Bob Murray, Stephanie Davis and Richard Baldwin, Lauren Barlow, Cherie Magee, Doreen Croser, Virginia Kandel, Peggy Cruise, Dot Berdinka and Ruth Duval – who spent several weeks and nearly 100 hours organizing and marking the 100’s of items for sale, and then returned Saturday morning to help on sale day. This dedicated crew helped the Society net almost $1,300.00 ! Thank You All! Don’t forget our next Yard Sale is already scheduled for September 10
- A new newsletter was sent out early this monthreminding all of the 2016 Summer Exhibit Opening on June 10th. Other articles described the expected Landmark Designation of The Remsenburg Academy. Another article detailed our plan to reconstruct the three-hearth chimney in the Foster Meeker Heritage Center to facilitate future educational demonstrations. The matching grant offered by The Robert L. Gardiner Foundation requires that we raise half of the necessary funds in advance. A big Thank You to all our Adopt A Window donors with a plaque of recognition.
- Our favorite way to start the Summer Season arrived June 10th when we once again enjoyed a wonderful evening Cocktail Party at Starr Boggs. Our many members look forward to this party each year and Starr never disappoints! The hor d’oeuvres are scrumptious, the staff attentive, and the buffet delicious and generous too! This year’s event also included an Art Auction. Six local artists each generously donated a piece of their artwork to be auctioned off to benefit the Society. The artists and their artwork were: Lise B. Frielinghaus – WESTHAMPTON MOVIE THEATER , Pamela Gates Capozzola – WESTHAMPTON FREE LIBRARY, Susan B. Rogers – STRIPED BASS NO. 2, Anne St. John’s – THE HIBISCUS, Kristen Berdinka Gordon – MIRROR IMAGE, Elizabeth M. Duerschmidt – ECKARTS’ LUNCHEONETTE. The bidding was lively and the eventual winners were delighted – Look at theses happy faces! – AND – the Society benefited again as the sales totaled almost $1,000! Past Board Member Philip Grossman also helped that evening by selling 50/50 tickets garnering another $205 for the society and for the lucky winner as well. What a great evening!
- Membership renewals for 2016 have been terrific – only 50 members have not yet renewed. If by any chance you have forgotten to renew and are among the 50….Please send in your membership fees – or you can pay online through this website. We depend on these membership fees to maintain the Tuthill House Museum and to care for the artifacts we have in our collection. We truly appreciate all your continued support.
