THIS MONTH’S NEWS
- October 16 — Annual Pot Luck Supper. Held at the Saint Marks Church events hall, this is always a favorite event where we all get to start the fall season off with a delicious ham dinner AND a taste of our neighbors special recipes. The evening always includes an interesting talk by a local speaker – this year our speaker is Dick Richardson who will discuss the history of decoys in hunting water fowl in the area. He will also bring a display of old and new decoys and discuss their construction. Bring a favorite dish to share with all AND you may bring one decoy for appraisal!
- October 27 — 2nd Grade School Tour. is scheduled for a visit by local 2nd graders to our Tuthill House Museum and Foster-Meeker Heritage Center. While visiting the students will have some hands on experience making lavendar scented sachets like those used in colonial days to freshen the homes of our eariliest residents.
- October 29 — The Conservation Advisory Council for the village of Westhampton Beach will meet Saturday at 11AM at the Library. They are hosting an informational meeting to discuss the upcoming Community Preservation Fund ballot initiative. Land conservation, historic preservation, development and infrastructure are all important factors in the region’s future and these priorities must be set by our community. Fred Thiele will be there, as well as a rep from the Nature Conservancy.
- October 31 — Westhampton Beach 4th Grade Local History Lesson at the Westhampton Beach Cemetery with our Education Committee. Our Education Committee has created a program to teach the children about local historical figures that had an impact on our history and development as a village. The Fourth Grade classes will spend several hours visiting the historic grave sites and discussing how the focus and determination of these individuals led to lives of great accomplishment and service to all.
