Shipwrecks and Lifesaving
will be presented by speakers Dick Gardner and Frances Ryan. Both are longtime residents of Quogue and researchers of local history. Both are also trustees of the Suffolk County Historical Society and Ms. Ryan is currently Quogue Village Historian.
The lecture will tell how shipwrecks came to be such a part of 19th and 20th century life along the south shore. You will learn how the US Life Saving Service came to be and will hear the tales of six actual wrecks between Moriches and Bridgehampton and the rescues the USLSS took part in.

Long Island Waters in Wartime – speaker Bill Bleyer will present some local history you never learned in school, Long Island’s maritime involvement from the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, WWI and WWII. Mr. Bleyer has written for numerous newspapers and magazines as well as authoring several books about Long Island history.
